Moving Tips

Moving can be a stressful and complicated process that tests the endurance, patience, and problem solving skills of your entire household. With so many things to think about, it is easy to forget important things that will cause headaches and frustration later on. Here are our top 6 moving tips that we hope will help make your move as easy as possible.

Moving Tips:

Tip #1: Pick the right moving company. We know your stuff is important to you and picking the wrong moving company can result in damaged and lost items. Do your research and read the reviews on moving companies before making your selection. You should also ensure that the company has a good insurance policy and the rate is clear so there are no hidden fees that might result in a surprising bill at the end of the day.

Tip # 2: Forward your mail. There is a lot to do when you move, don’t add tracking your mail down to that list. Setting up the mail forward is simple and it just takes a few minutes to register the move with your postal service.

Tip #3: Don’t forget the packing peanuts. To move your valuables you need more than just boxes. Ensure you are well stocked in packing peanuts, bubble wrap, fragile stickers and other protective packing materials that will keep your delicates from breaking during the move.

Tip #5: Keep an inventory check list. Items breaking aren't your only concern during a move; you will also want to ensure your possessions don’t end up lost. Ensure you check off items as they make it on and off of the moving truck/s and ensure several people do a final sweep of the house and property you’re leaving to ensure nothing is accidentally left behind.

Tip #6: Pack a survival kit. It can be frustrating having all your possessions in boxes and not being able to quickly find exactly what you might be looking for…this could be beyond frustrating if the items you are looking for are important to you or a family member. Items to include the survival kit are things such as:

  • Clothing
  • Toiletries
  • Necessary medications
  • Childcare items
  • Favourite toys – having an unhappy child is not something you want to be put through during a move.
  • Tools
  • Flashlight
  • Cash
